Bridge Sought for Jugiong

15 January 1953 Cootamundra Herald

Jugiong Progress Association wants a bridge over the Murrumbidgee at Jugiong, and has sought the Demondrille Shire Council's assistance in getting it.

The council, two years ago, appealed to the Minister for Transport and member for Burrinjuck (Mr. Sheahan) asking him to approach the Government for a grant to have a bridge constructed at Jugiong.

Because of the Federal and State financial, position then and since, no grant was made for the bridge which in 1951 would have cost about, £12,000.

Today the cost of building it would be considerably higher.

The matter of the proposed bridge was discussed by Demondrille councillors at the last shire meeting, and it was unanimously agreed .that the shire itself could not finance the erection of the structure.

However the Council will again make an approach - this time through the local member, to the Department of Public Works, for a financial grant sufficient to cover the building of a bridge at Jugiong.
