Chinese Jockey Married

11 January 1949 Kalgoorlie Miner

E. Doon weds divorcee. Australia's only Chinese jockey, Teddy Doon, aged 21, was quietly married to Mrs. Olga Joel, 33-year-old divorcee at the bride's sister's home at Cammeray last night.

News of the wedding was kept a close secret and only members of both families attended.

It was performed by the Rev. Eastman, of the Presbyterian Church, Petersham.

Earlier in the day at Moorefield races, where he rode in six races, Doon declined to confirm a report that he was to be married that night.

He was married less than three hours after riding in the last race, and later a party of 30 guests, including several racing men, attended a reception at a fashionable Elizabeth Bay restaurant.

Doon and his bride have gone to Lapstone in the Blue Mountains for their honeymoon, but Doon will make a car trip back to Sydney on Tuesday morning to ride track work at Randwick.

Doon, who is a member of a Tumut family, ended his apprenticeship with Randwick trainer D. Lewis last year.

He has ridden 11 winners this season.
