Chrome Mine at Coolac Responds

8 February 1895 The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser

Mr. J. J. Kelly, manager of the Excelsior Chrome Mine, at Coolac, called at this office yesterday, in reference to our interview, on the "Truth about the Chrome Mine", which appeared in Tuesday's Times.

Mr. Kelly said "I wish to point out that our mine is fully timbered and that we have spent more money in timbering and making the workings safe than any other mine in the district.

It was not fair of Mr. Roberts to state that there is only one mine in the district timbered.

Mr. Kelly added that he had written to Sydney pointing out that a Government Inspector should visit the mines, and remove suspicions from those that are really safe.

We may state that we learn from private sources that the inspector may be expected any day in Gundagai.
