Death at Tumut of Mr. James Edgar Madigan

The death occurred at Tumut on 4th September, of Mr. James Edgar Madigan a life long resident of that district. He was born at Tumut on 20th March, 1852, the year of the big flood in the Murrumbidgee River, and was therefore 85 years of age.

He married Miss Clarissa Hilton, a daughter of Tumut's first postmaster - Mr. Henry Hilton.

He was a keen racing enthusiast, having ridden with success and later owned many prominent racehorses.

For many years he was a hotel keeper in Tumut.
