Gold Escort from Adelong

31 August 1872 The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser

On Monday last the conveyance of our gold by Messrs. Cobb and Co., was inaugurated by the departure of a well-appointed coach and horses, with advance and rear guards of mounted police, while the interior of the vehicle was garrisoned by the sergeant in command of the escort.

The whole scene was calculated to impress the bystanders with a sense of vast improvement in effectiveness and security over the pack-horse system which has been hitherto in vogue.

Our contribution to the metalic wealth of the colony amounts to 1152 ozs. 5 dwts. 13 grs. this month, which including 72 ozs. from Tumut is a respectable um to be placed to the credit of so small a community.
