Henry Hilton, Testimonial

The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser

31 July 1875

On Wednesday evening last a number of gentlemen met at the Commercial Hotel, to present Mr. Henry Hilton with the testimonial in recognition of his long and faithful services as postmaster we alluded to in a former issue.

Mr. E. G. Brown, as chairman, having read an address on behalf of the subscribers thereto, and then handing to Mr Hilton a substantial token of their esteem, viz., about 30, in eulogistic terms referred to the good service which this gentleman has for years past rendered to the community in his character of postmaster.

Mr. Hilton in a few feeling words gracefully returned his acknowledgments to the friends who had shewn him such marked kindness, and Mr. L. Mandelson, in proposing a vote of thanks to the chairman, paid Mr. Brown some well merited compliments, which Mr. Tuohy, who seconded the rote, cordially endorsed.
