The £11 million Blowering Dam on the Tumut River will take eight years to build, but'will irrigate and other wise benefit two million acres and enable generation of electricity.

This was stated in the Legislative Assembly by the Minister for Conservation (Mr. Weir) when, introducing the second reading of a bill enabling this work to be done.

Mr. Weir added that the dam was a State section of the Commonwealth Showy River project, and the Commonwealth had agreed in principle to contribute towards its cost, and would be asked to do so.

The work will probably be carried out by private contract, he added.
