Hume & Hovell Set Out

The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser

7 October 1824

We understand that His Excellency Sir Thomas Brisbane, K. C. B. ever anxious to promote the welfare and prosperity of Australia, has fitted out a party, with full instructions to explore the country for four or five hundred miles in the interior, to the southward and westward of Lake George; and on Monday last, that persevering young man, Mr. Hamilton Hume, in company with Mr. Hovell, passed through the Cowpastures, on the long and hazardous journey.

We sincerely wish them success, and hope they will fully accomplish the object so much wished for; and which will no doubt hereafter stimulate the Australians to further exertion for the future welfare of their country.
