Out of the once sturdy family of nine
6-foot Australians, the Crowe's, of Gobarralong, only four now remain, Mr.
Augustine F. Crowe, one of the younger members of the family, succumbing in
St. Vincent's private hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday morning, after an
operation he underwent the previous Sunday. Born at Gobarralong 62 years ago,
"Gus" Crowe was educated at St. Joseph's College, Hunter's Hill,
and for three years in succession he was captain of the College first eleven.
In those days he was looked upon as
the best wicket-keeper of all metropolitan school teams. Taking up law, Mr. Crowe was admitted
as a solicitor in 1893, and for some years practised his profession at
Gundagai. Over a quarter of a century ago he
left here, and went to Sydney, where he practised his profession ever since. His wife predeceased him, and he
leaves a grown-up family of four sons and three daughters. His surviving brothers are Messrs.
Henry J. Crowe (Gobarralong), T. Crowe (Wyalong), James Crowe and Cyrus
Crowe, and two sisters are Mrs. E. Brennan Eurobin, Gocup)
and Miss N. Crowe (Gobarralong). The funeral took place yesterday, the
remains being interred in the R.C. cemetery, Rookwood.    |
