Obituary - Mrs. Bridget A. Roche

The death occurred at her home, Gundagai street, Adelong, on Saturday afternoon of Mrs. Bridget Anastasia Roche, aged 82 years, one of the best known and most highly respected residents of the Adelong district.

Mrs. Roche was born at 'Springdale,' Adelong, on August 1, 1863, and was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Arragon.

She married Mr. John Roche, of 'Rochedale,' Adelong, in 1892, and is survived by seven sons, Messrs. Frank, John, Michael, Thomas, Patrick, William and Raymond Roche (all married and residing at Adelong), and one daughter, Mrs. Marchbank (Nellie), of Caulfield (V.).

Nephews and nieces who also survive Mrs. Roche are John and Thomas Arragon, of Condongblonga Station, Adelong; Mrs. Caspers (Goulburn), Mrs. A. E. Tooze (Wagga) and Mrs. Reynolds (Quirindi). 

Her only brother, Mr. T. P. Arragon, of Condongblonga Station, Adelong, and a niece, Mrs. Tonkin, of Adelong, predeceased her.

Mrs. Roche was a member of the Ade- long Hospital Women's Auxiliary, the Adelong Red Cross Society, and Adelong Country Women's Association.

She was a strong adherent of the Catholic Church, and a very good friend of the sisters of the Adelong Convent.

She had been ailing during the past three years and was visited by the Sisters and received the Last Sacraments from Rev. Father Collins, of Adelong.

The funeral took place at Adelong yesterday, when the cortege was very long and representative.

Relatives and friends were also present from Sydney, Wagga, Tumut, Tarcutta, Batlow, Gundagai and Jugiong. 

The casket was carried by six sons, Messrs. John, Michael, Thomas, Patrick, William and Raymond Roche.

The Rev. Father Collins read prayers before the funeral left St. James' Catholic Church, Adelong, and again at the graveside.

Among the many floral tributes were wreaths from the Adelong Red Cross, C.W.A. and Hospital Women's Auxiliary.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. D. Boston.
