Rust In Wheat

Freeman's Journal

6 September 1890

The Minister for Education has received a report from Mr, Angus Mackay, lecturer in Agriculture, on the progress of rust in wheat.

Mr. Mackay reports that he found rust very prevalent upon Tuscan, Goulburn drop, purple straw, bananas and several hybrid wheats.

As to the statement that rust diseases came through the interior of the wheat plant, he saw no traces of that kind.

So far the progress of the disease had appeared to be in moist, still weather; when dry, windy weather approached the disease made no headway.
