Southern Road Robberies

The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser

2 February 1853

We are, sorry to hear that the southern road is still very much infested with robbers. On Friday last, three respectable men, named Brown, Guy, and Shaw, who were travelling to the Ovens, were stopped beyond Gundagai by five armed men, who, because they resisted, beat them a good deal, and succeeded in robbing them of nearly £40 and a revolver.

A strong patrol is urgently required between the Murray and Murrumbidgee.
