Upper Tumut to be Next

The second stage of the Snowy Mountains hydroelectric scheme will be the development of works in the upper Tumut area.

The Snowy Mountains Authority announced this in its annual report for the year ended June 30 last, tabled in the House of Representatives today.

It estimates that the upper Tumut works will produce 160,000 kilowatts of power by 1958 in addition to the 60,000 kilowatt; expected to be flowing from the Guthega project next year.

The report discloses that half the total labour force employed on the project at June 30 last comprised new Australians.
