Yass, Terrible Flood

The Sydney Morning Herald

1 July 1852

We have had a terrible flood beyond all experience here, it seems to have been general.

The Upper Murrumbidgee being also higher than over known, and I tremble to hear what have been the consequences further down where all these waters have combined: I apprehend great loss of life as well as property: such a place as Gundagai I hardly ever hope to hear of again, there is as yet no communication from thence.

I will write you more fully in my next, as I have this ready for the first mail that may leave.

There has been great destruction of property.
